These double portraits show both life-size and enlarged views of mold.
Glass, growth medium, mold spores, stainless steel hardware
20 inches tall x 20 inches wide x 3 inches deep
First created for the Philadelphia Flower Show Microflorals
Enlarged images of common molds (bread and fruit mold) are sandblasted onto glass. Each of the carved-out areas become miniature petri dishes that are filled with growth medium and inoculate with mold spores.
During the show, mold grows on the glass creating a double portrait of the fungus: the floral patterns of the mold appear as both life-sized and hugely magnified.
