These double portraits show both life-size and enlarged views of mold.

Glass, growth medium, mold spores, stainless steel hardware

20 inches tall x 20 inches wide x 3 inches deep

Enlarged images of common molds (bread and fruit mold) are sandblasted onto glass. The works were first created for the Philadelphia Flower Show Microflorals at the Kohler Art Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

Each of the carved-out areas become miniature petri dishes that are filled with growth medium and inoculate with mold spores.

Mold grows on the glass creating a double portrait of the fungus: in this single work, mold appears as both life-sized and hugely magnified.
