Part of the Life Cycles Show at SECCA: Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, Winston Salem NC. Collected water, plastic 80’x 43’ x 6”
5000 plastic deli containers of different sizes were filled with water collected from the Yadkin River and all of its tributaries. The watershed was mapped on the floor of the gallery, with the names of towns applied to the floor in vinyl letters. People who lived in the area could locate and stand in their neighborhoods on the map, and see the flow and destination of their backyard streams. The varying colors of the different waterways became apparent when the water was assembled indoors.
